Date Night & Natalia's 1st stroller ride

Michelle and I decided to go on a date and eat a certain food she was unable to eat while pregnant: Sushi (based on USDA guidelines limiting seafood to 12 oz per week and avoidance of raw fish). Although Natalia is now getting older (336 hours-2 weeks old) and begged us to stay home alone, we decided that this might be unsafe for her, so Grandma and Grandpa did some babysitting while we enjoyed our date night.

The next day, we took Natalia for her first stroller ride...she seemed to love it!

Grandma & Grandpa Lodeserto have been here all week visiting Natalia!
More pictures from their visit to come : )
Natalia was awake for most of the ride but fell asleep soon after...

Artwork...

Natalia received her first piece of mail from her 4 year old big cousin Nicholas in New Jersey. Natalia was mesmerized by the bold use of black and white color contrast and the seemingly simple stick figure design. However, on further examination the artwork is much deeper and thought provoking than initially thought. Natalia and daddy are seen here on the couch in sharp disagreement of Nicholas's style of art. I believe Nicholas was using a form of art called "Primitivism" popularized by artist Paul Klee where the artist uses very simple, flat 2 dimensional images to convey there meaning. And the picture is simply Mommy, Daddy, and Natalia. Where as Natalia was adament that Nicholas was using the art form known as "Surrelaism" popularized by Salvador Dali and that this painting is actually a dream of Natalia looking at her in different phases of her life from infancy to adulthood. Honestly she makes good point's, but maybe we just need to ask the artist himself. Until then Daddy and Natalia are just going to agree to disagree.

Thank you Nicholas!! Love, Natalia

Girls Night...

Natalia has been home for a little more than 1 week and has been eager to have her friends over the house to hang out.  Between frequent naps, diaper changes, and being cuddled and held by her parents and grandparents she was totally bored.  She asked us if she could have a few friends over the house, and Mom and I had a big decision to make.  We laid Natalia down in her basinet and explained to her that because of her inferior immunization status this would not be the best time.  We said that after her 2 month immunizations she could go anywhere she wanted.  But Natalia pleaded and pleaded and finally after her Mom and I were melted by her adorable smile, we said she could have a few friends over.  Here are some pictures of Natalia's play date with Baileigh Moore.

Mommy & Natalia

Hi everyone, it's Michelle! : ) Frank is going to post some pictures from Natalia's first "play date" but in the meantime, my mom took these pictures of Natalia & I a few days ago and I just wanted to share them. I also wanted to thank her for all her help! Thank you mom for all the yummy food, clean clothes & for keeping the house tidy! We love you xoxoxo

1 week old...

Natalia has turned 1 week of age today.  To this point she has been sort of getting a free ride, so to speak.  Free food(thanks to mom's high circulating levels of oxytocin and prolactin stimulating  breast mammary gland milk production), free diaper changes, dressing her, and all this without paying a single cent for rent.  As parents, Michelle and I don't care about the money, but we don't want to feel taken advantage of either.  We will do anything for our baby, but we don't want her to become content or lazy.  We just want her to start thinking about her education and career.  It may be early, but people say it's never too early to start thinking about the future.  After our talk she wanted to study with me (daddy).  I am not pushing her into medicine, but wanted to at least expose her to what is available...

A Father's perspective...

I have been a father now for 6 days, and I have learned a lot.  Baby Natalia has been getting very discouraged; I know this because she occasionally cries over little things.  You see, she has not achieved bowel or bladder continence yet and I think it's getting to her both mentally and emotionally.  She spits up on herself and feels bad that she is dirtying her favorite outfits, and right now feels incapable of caring for her own needs.  This can be hard for anyone!  Last night, about 4:00 am, during one of these crying sessions I pulled her aside and encouraged her as only a well experienced father can.  I told her that all newborns go through this, and that her Mom and I will keep cleaning her as long as it takes.  I told her we loved her, and this phase wont last forever.  And you know...I think this helped.  Happy Father's Day to all the dads...

Home sweet home..

It's great to be home with our new family member Natalia.  So now we are 3, Michelle, Natalia and me (oh- and Scrubs & Tra' our dogs).  Natalia made a lot of friends in the nursery, the majority of whom we approve.  She really bonded with a former 29 week premie recently discharged from the NICU.  Her new friend, who has been at the hospital several months, showed her the ropes and helped Natalia feel at home immediately.  The two were spotted sharing pacifiers and discussing the hottest new onesie styles for 2009.  Since we got home the two have been going out and having a lot of fun.  We only get to see her at night when she gets home.  Here are a few photos & video we managed to snap while she has been with us...

Going Home...

Frank here...Today we took our beautiful daughter home for the first time.  We have our first Pediatrician appointment tomorrow to check Natalia's weight.  Michelle is recovering well and I think she is as beautiful as ever.  Our experience at Pitt County Memorial Hospital was unbelievable.  The nurses, midwifes, doctors, lactation specialists, and pediatricians exceeded my highest expectations.  They took excellent care of all three of us.  Thank you as well to all our family and friends for your support and prayers.  God has given us so much to be thankful for.  We are very excited to come home though...Mommy needs to get some sleep and recover, daddy needs to shave(next time I need to either need to be better prepared early or bring a razor), and Natalia needs to eat and grow.  Here are a few pictures before departing...
